General purpose solvent based Adhesive Star – 8000 and Star H-75 is a two component solvent based adhesive system in which Star -8000 acts as an adhesive where as Star H-75 is a polyisocynate additive.

PRODUCT INFORMATION AND END USE APPLICATION:

Mixed adhesive Star 8000 / H-75 has a pot life of 8 – 10 hrs under appropriate storage conditions. Should be stored in tightly closed container with Nitrogen gas purging. Usage of mixed adhesive beyond recommended pot life may cause defects in laminates and therefore not recommended.

 

SPECIFICATIONS OF CYLINDER:

Based on the lamination practices, it is recommended that the application cylinder should be electronically itched with 150 lines per inch i.e. 60 lines per centimeter. A cell depth ranges from   45 – 55 microns is also recommended when machine runs at solid content of 25.0 to 35.0 percent.

OPERATING CONDITIONS:

  • The mixing ratio of adhesive, hardener and ethyl acetate should be as per dilution chart mentioned in technical data sheet.
  • Recommended application solid content ranges between 25% to 45%.
  • Initial bond strength is good enough. The bond strength after 12 to 24 hrs will be sufficient for further stages like slitting, rewinding and pouching.
  • Dry adhesive deposit is ranging from 1.50 to 4.0 gsm depending upon the end use application.
  • A small lamination trial is recommended to study the compatibility of adhesive and ink being used.
  • The polyolefin films use is not recommended below treatment level of 38 dynes / cm.
  • Machine variables like drying tunnel temperature, speed, air flow and recirculation should be ideal so as to minimise solvent entrapment in the laminate.
  • The tension of primary and secondary substrates is adjusted in such way that that the stretch of the film is equal and thus ensuring there is no curling or tunneling in laminate.
  • Temperature and pressure of laminating nip should be adequate for manufacturing healthy laminates.

 

 

APPLICATIONS:

This is a general purpose solvent based lamination adhesive system. It is applicable for lamination of flexible film, film to film, film to foil, film to metallised film and many such multi layered laminates. The laminates prepared by using this adhesive system are used for packing of non – aggressive food products. Also, this adhesive system is extensively used for packing of biscuit, snacks, potato chips, shampoos, spices, edible oil, soaps etc.

This is a polyester based adhesive. Also, it can be used in those packing where nitrogen flushing is done.

This system can be used at an application solid content up to 50 percent, thus yields in significant savings of dilution solvent.

 

Handling, Storage and Safety:

Star 8000 / H-75 has recommended a storage life of 9 months when stored in cool, dry and indoor conditions with adequate ventilation. Once opened, should be consumed within shorter period of time. And should be stored in tightly closed container. The material should be keep away from heat and ignition source.

Material safety data sheet for the product is available and is recommended to follow safety and hygiene guidelines as per MSDS.

The empty containers of above product may be hazardous and must be disposed off according to local pollution control act.
